Twitter has always been, besides being a microblogging service, a social media platform for businesses to communicate with each other, with key influencers in its industry, or its actual and potential audience. Twitter is bringing its game a notch higher, now testing a new feature that would be useful to business Twitter accounts. They are “ready to start a limited beta test.”
The feature is called “Contributors.” From the words of Anamitra, who works in the product team at Twitter:
“The feature we are beta testing is called ‘Contributors’ – it enables users to engage in more authentic conversations with businesses by allowing those organizations to manage multiple contributors to their account. The feature appends the contributor’s username to the tweet byline, making the business to consumer communication more personal; e.g. if @Twitter invites @Biz to tweet on its behalf, then a tweet from @Twitter would include @Biz in the byline so that users know more about the real people behind organizations.”

Twitter applications do exist that allow you to manage multiple users to the same account, so that when members of the organization tweet in behalf of a business, it is all accredited under one Twitter username. One such application is called CoTweet, a Twitter Account Manager that pretty much serves as your personal Twitter assistant. This development is a huge step especially for business owners, because it removes the need of going to an external application to manage your organization’s Twitter activities. All business and organizational tweeting will be managed through Twitter’s “Contributors.”
Practical Social Media offers many resources to help you get started on Twitter. Twitter is not merely a buzzword, it’s a biz word! It’s a tweeting world out there, and business owners must make it their business to catch up and start tweeting!
