Social Media Marketing tools keep growing in importance. Last month Facebook announced their new Fan Box widget that takes content from your fan page and places it onto your blog. And now they just announced yesterday that they have enabled real-time search across the entire Facebook community. Read more on their blog here!
This is a big deal. The idea that fresh content is more valuable than old content has received so much attention since Twitter came onto the scene. Earlier this year Google announced the “Show Options” features, making it possible to search by looking at only recent results. And now Facebook as enabled that feature across their entire network of 250,000,000 and growing.
Why is this a big deal for business? It is now more possible than ever to insert yourself into relevant conversations everywhere as they happen, or soon there after while it is still fresh in everyone’s mind. This is not only great for engaging with people based on the stated interests or conversations, but also for finding out mountains of information or what others are doing that you can use to your advantage. I did a real-time search on Facebook for “social media” this morning and found a church in Oklahoma that created a sermon around how other churches are using Facebook as part of their social media strategy. I will be calling that pastor as I finish this post.
A world of business opportunities opens up when we have better tools. And real-time search is certainly a big part of that equation.
